Job Summary
We are currently hiring for a Casual Rehabilitation/Recreation Assistant to join our Rehabilitation team at Surrey Memorial Hospital located in Surrey, B.C.

Detailed Overview
Under the general supervision of an Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist and Recreation Therapist, the Casual Rehabilitation/Recreation Assistant provides routine training to patients on activities of daily living, carries out recreation, physiotherapy and occupational therapy programs, prepares and applies treatment modalities, prepares equipment for use by the therapist, and maintains inventory of equipment.
Responsibilities
Within an assigned area,
provide routine instruction to patients on activities of daily living such as toileting, transfers, dressing/undressing, donning/doffing prostheses/orthoses, washing, bathing, and assisting where necessary.
Carry out established recreation participation programs such as crafts, bingo, community news and maintain the patient environment.
Prepare and apply treatment modalities such as ice, heat, cryocuff, whirlpool and wax; supervise established exercise programs; perform passive and active assisted range of motion exercises and assist with walking following established policies and procedures.
Provide direction to volunteers during recreation, physiotherapy and occupational therapy programs and demonstrate related techniques as required.
Assist with or conduct group activities established by physiotherapy, occupational therapy or recreation therapy.
Provide input into the planning, implementation and evaluation of program modifications or proposed new programs.
Report patient’s performance and response in programs to the appropriate therapist.
Prepare equipment for use by therapist; assist in fabrication of adaptive equipment and splints as directed. Clean all equipment according to procedure and schedule requirements and maintain the general tidiness of the department. Report all malfunctioning equipment to the appropriate therapist.
Maintain the inventory of equipment,
devices and materials and monitor lending and returning of patient equipment. Maintain inventory of general department supplies and prepare supply requisitions for signature as required.
Maintain statistical data as required.
Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience
Completion of a recognized Rehabilitation Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Skills and Abilities
Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to deal with others effectively.
Physical ability to perform the duties of the job.
Ability to organize work and manage time effectively.
Ability to operate related equipment.
