MDA Space is a global leader in satellite systems and space exploration, seeking a Human Resources Intern for an 8 to 12‑month placement on its Satellite Systems team in Montreal.
This internship will give you real work experience while supporting the HR team on various projects and initiatives.
Responsibilities
Assist with HR programs and maintain HR information and related records.
Ensure personnel files are consistent and compliant.
Work collaboratively with HR teams to support business needs on a variety of HR matters.
Provide labor relations administrative support in a unionized environment.
Assist with HR documentation that links to payroll (e.g., leave of absence, maternity leave).
Prepare employee letters as needed.
Assist with the orientation of recent staff.
Research health and safety practices and suggest improvements or modifications to existing policies.
Assist in planning activities within the HR department in conjunction with HR staff.
Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures.
Create documents, spreadsheets, and tracking devices as required.
Administer the HRIS system and record‑keeping.
Organize and conduct employee information meetings.
Ensure compliance with legislation.
Perform other HR‑related duties as assigned.
Required Skills
Strong internal motivation and willingness to learn.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Teams.
Proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Excel.
Automation skills are a plus.
Ability to work with cross‑functional teams and build relationships.
Ability to prioritize and work well independently.
Strong time management.
Strong attention to detail.
Strong Excel skills.
Bilingualism is required for communication with head‑office teams.
Qualifications
Working towards a bachelor’s degree or diploma in Human Resources.
Previous work experience in a unionized environment is a plus.
Experience in administrative tasks is a plus.
Desired Characteristics
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and integrity.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Experience with HRIS and similar computer applications would be considered an asset.
Comments / Special Considerations
Successful candidates must obtain and hold a security clearance at the reliability status level and pass security assessment for the Controlled Goods Program (CGP).
