Responsibilities and Duties
Reporting to the Director of Programs & Community Services or designate, the Indigenous Birth Support Worker will work as part of the Community Health Maternal Child Health Program and Womens Health Team to provide wholistic care to women and families within the eleven FHQTC communities. The Indigenous Birth Support Worker will offer support and help to pregnant women, advocate for the mother to support a positive birth experience and ensure cultural traditions and/or ceremonies are available and respected. The Indigenous Birth Support Worker will provide women and their partners with emotional support, physical comfort, and information during pregnancy, labor, and in the post-partum period.



This position works closely with the communities of the FHQTC to promote awareness of indigenous birth practices.

Qualifications

Grade 12

Completion of Birth Doula Studies Program

Experience working in maternal child health is an asset

Valid class 5 license

CPIC & Vulnerable Sectors check

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Basic knowledge of physiology of birth

Demonstrated knowledge, respect, and understanding of First Nations culture and traditions, and traditional birthing practices

Ability to work independently and as a member of the multidisciplinary team

Solid interpersonal skills

Organizational skills

Ability to work independently

Basic computer skills
