Hours of Work: 34 weekly, 7 a–4 p on a 5‑5‑4 rotation.

The Emergency Harm Reduction Shelter Support is responsible for providing practical support to all residents and ensuring the smooth operation of the shelter. A main focus of the Shelter Support, in collaboration with the rest of the team, is to create and monitor strength‑based individualized plans with each woman staying in the shelter to help facilitate meeting her needs/goals, as well as to provide harm reduction and trauma‑informed care to high‑acuity individuals.

Position Purpose:



Support residents in a high‑acuity shelter to remove barriers to housing through relationship building, harm reduction, and advocacy. Support them to achieve goals such as rebuilding family connections, achieving and maintaining sobriety, and stable mental health.

Responsibilities include:

Service Delivery (70%)

Administration and Operations (30%)

Education:

Bachelors degree in Social Work, Justice Studies, or another human service field OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience:

Experience working with Indigenous people, familiarity with Indigenous cultures, and an understanding of the ongoing impacts of colonialism on Indigenous peoples.

Demonstrated experience working with the complex needs of people experiencing homelessness.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

Knowledge of the criminal justice and child welfare systems, trauma‑informed care, and family violence.

Ability to work independently and with a team.

Accurate documentation and record‑keeping ability and basic computer skills (knowledge of HIFIS is an asset).

Positive communication and organizational abilities.

Demonstrated crisis intervention skills.

Cultural awareness, and respect for women and children of various backgrounds.
