At StepStones for Youth, we believe every young person deserves a steady, caring adult in their corner. Our Mentorship Program connects youth involved in the child welfare system with long-term, one-to-one mentors who provide guidance, friendship, and consistent support across all areas of life.
About the Role
As a StepStones mentor, you'll be matched with a youth and meet with them every 2–3 weeks for approximately 3–4 hours. What you do during that time is up to you both — grabbing a meal, exploring the city, working toward goals, or simply spending quality time together. The most significant thing you bring is consistency and genuine care.
This isn't a short-term commitment. We're looking for mentors who are ready to be a lasting presence in a young person's life — someone they can count on not just this year, but for years to come.
Who We're Looking For
25 years of age or older
Located in the GTA, Durham, Peel, York, or surrounding areas
Able to commit to a minimum of 3 years (lifelong commitment preferred)
Patient, reliable, and passionate about supporting young people
Willing to complete an interview process, training, and documentation requirements
General Requirements
As the basis, all mentors must:
Complete a Volunteer Application
Attend a Volunteer Information Session
Provide a Vulnerable Sector Check
Why It Matters
Many of the youth we serve have experienced instability, loss, and uncertainty. A mentor isn't just a volunteer — you become one of the most meaningful relationships in a young person's life. The impact you make extends far beyond your time together.
