Job Description
Reporting to the Dietary Manager, the Dietary Aide assists with food preparation and serving of meals, cleans eating, cooking, storage, serving areas and equipment, and follows established policies, procedures and standards.

Must have a valid Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) within 6 months. Must also provide a TB test.

Work Schedule: On call + various hours (38 hours biweekly 7:30am‑1:15pm).

Responsibilities

Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences, observing time limits for meal serving and maintaining foods at proper serving temperature.

Assist cooks to clean and prepare uncooked foods such as salads, vegetables and fruits; prepare simple breakfast items, desserts and garnishes following basic instructions.

Transparent plates and trays, load and operate dishwasher, and clean pots, pans and cooking utensils as per procedure.

Participate in proper storage and labeling of dietary supplies and food, including leftovers.

Adhere to established departmental policies and procedures regarding quality assurance, fire, safety,



environment and infection control.

Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes.

Participate in facility meetings and attend in‑service education programs as assigned.

Perform grocery shopping twice per week.

Conduct cleaning once per week.

Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Qualifications

Previous dietary experience preferred.

Applicants must have a Food Service Worker Certificate or be enrolled in the FSW program and a Food Handler’s Safety Certificate.

Must be able to stand for long periods of time.

Ability to read, write and understand simple verbal and written English instructions.

Ability to work safely, following established safety practices and procedures.

Must be able to do moderate to heavy lifting.

Successful candidate must be available to work days, evenings, weekends and statutory holidays.

Must provide VSC and TB test.
