The organization is focused on operational excellence, people-first leadership, and stabilizing newly acquired communities through strong on-site HR partnership.The OpportunityWe are seeking an experienced Human Resources Business Partner (HRBP) to support a portfolio of retirement communities in the Ottawa region. This is a highly hands-on, field-based role suited for an HR professional who thrives in a unionized healthcare workplace, enjoys labour relations, and is comfortable navigating complex employee relations matters with confidence.The HRBP will act as a trusted advisor to Executive Directors and site leadership, supporting the full employee lifecycle while playing a key role in acquisition integration and operational stabilization.Key ResponsibilitiesHR Business PartnershipServe as the primary HR partner for multiple retirement communitiesCoach and advise leaders on employee relations, performance management, attendance, and engagementProvide practical, solutions-oriented guidance aligned with organizational goalsLabour RelationsInterpret and apply collective agreements in a unionized environmentLead and support grievance processes, investigations,
and resolutionsParticipate in bargaining preparation and labour strategy supportAdvise leaders through challenging and high-stakes employee relations mattersAcquisition & Change SupportConduct HR due diligence for newly acquired communities (contracts, policies, union agreements, practices)Support post-acquisition integration, restructuring, and change management initiativesHelp stabilize new sites through solid on-site HR leadershipTalent & Workforce ManagementSupport recruitment and onboarding for frontline and leadership rolesPartner with leaders on workforce planning and staffing strategiesEnsure consistent onboarding and employee experience across sitesCompliance & Best PracticesEnsure compliance with employment legislation, health & safety, and organizational policiesSupport documentation, reporting, and HR systems usagePartner with Joint Health & Safety Committees as requiredTravel ExpectationsOttawa-based with regular on-site presence across multiple communitiesMinimum 3 days per week on the road, remainder work from homeOccasional travel to other Ontario/Quebec locationsQualifications5+ years of progressive HR experience in a unionized, multi-site healthcare or senior living environmentStrong labour relations experience (grievances, collective agreements, investigations)Experience supporting change, restructuring, or acquisitions is a strong assetSolid knowledge of Ontario employment legislationCHRP designation preferred (or working toward)Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicleIdeal ProfileConfident, resilient, and comfortable being challengedEnjoys labour relations and complex problem-solvingHighly independent, organized, and detail-orientedThrives in a field-based, fast-moving environment
