Aecon Utilities is a leading North American utility infrastructure provider committed to delivering safe, reliable and innovative solutions across electrical, telecommunications, pipeline distribution and renewable energy markets. As part of Aecon Utilities’ in-house engineering division, Aecon Utility Engineering (AUE) partners closely with construction teams and clients to provide specialized design, project, and quality management expertise across the full utility lifecycle. The role supports the Hamilton LRT project, a 14‑kilometre transit system within Ontario.

What You’ll Do Here

Complete basic to moderate design drawings, quantity calculations, and as‑built drawings for various utility projects using software such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, SPIDA Calc, PLS‑CADD, IKE Office, Pull Planner, and AGi32.

Resolve routine design challenges while complex problems are escalated to senior team members.

Collaborate with Project Designers and Project Engineers to ensure drawing accuracy.

Interpret permit drawings and city websites to understand the full scope of each design.

Liaise with Project Designers, Project Engineers, and Field Inspectors to solve design issues.

Manage project schedules and deliverables with support from senior staff.

Ensure quality of project deliverables and complete projects within budget, tracking hours and staying within designated limits.

Conduct quality checks on field captures to verify completeness of recorded items.





Process field captures performed by Field Inspectors.

Perform additional duties as assigned to support the design team.

What You Bring To The Team

Post‑secondary education in Electrical, Civil, or Architectural Engineering (asset).

Minimum one year of AutoCAD or MicroStation drafting experience.

Minimum one year of experience with utility projects, particularly telecommunications, hydro, and gas (strong asset).

High proficiency with AutoCAD, including customization (scripts, tools, menus).

Basic knowledge of municipal standards (asset).

Basic understanding of pole‑line analysis (asset).

Familiarity with CSA standards (asset).

Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) with strong document creation and data analysis skills.

Good understanding of electrical/civil engineering drawings and site plans.

Excellent safety record and demonstrated safety awareness.

Benefits and Salary
Reason for Vacancy: New. Pay range: $25‑$32 per hour. This is a 12‑month contractual role; individual pay is determined by location, education, experience, unique skills, and job conditions, including certifications and specialized training.
