Casual Support Worker
Pay: CA$23.73-CA$25.95 per hour

Job Description
The Support Worker (SW) assists clients with their physical, vocational, recreational, social, emotional, and daily life skill development. The SW supports clients to achieve the greatest degree of independence and quality of life possible. The Casual Staff will be called on duty whenever a regular employee (Full time/Part time) is not available for their shifts, such as for planned vacation leave, sickness, or other emergencies.

Casual employees will receive proper training and be added to a casual list based on their training and experience. They may be called on duty based on seniority and experience, or assigned as on‑call staff for specific times, committing their hours to LMSCL and receiving pay under the Social Services Collective Bargaining Agreement with BCGEU.

Education & Experience

Certificate in a related human / social services degree or Grade 12 diploma or GED with equivalent combination of education, experience, / training in mental health, childcare, medical or nursing

1 year of experience working with people with developmental disabilities in vocational & community settings is preferred but new graduates of related disciplines are welcomed

Demonstrates ability to successfully implement instructional and proactive training programs for clients

Must be able to perform lifts and transfers of 25 lbs.

Experience in implementing positive behaviour support programs in a day program environment is preferred

Must be able to work with high challenging clients





Must be willing to work all over Vancouver, Richmond and Surrey

Valid First Aid/CPR

Food Safe

WHMIS (training provided)

Non-violent Crisis Intervention Certification (training provided)

Demonstrates competency in English

Basic computer literacy

Eligible to work in Canada

Advantages
No benefit package is available to casual employees. They will receive an additional 10.6% of their wages for vacation and statutory holiday compensation, payable on every pay cheque.

Experience

Support Worker: 1 year (required) – at least 6 months in Canada

Work Location
In person – must be available to work in any part of the Greater Vancouver area based on the organization’s needs (including North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Vancouver, Richmond, Delta, New Westminster, Burnaby, Surrey and the Tri‑cities).
