The Arctic

Over the Horizon Radar Project is a major federal initiative led by Canada’s Department of National Defence, playing a critical role in strengthening national and continental defence. As part of this program, Aecon’s Civil team is advancing Canada’s infrastructure through a strategic partnership with Pomerleau and Stantec. Delivered through a collaborative Integrated Project Delivery model, this project team is contributing to the design and construction of innovative infrastructure that will support one of the most advanced radar systems in North America.

This is a unique opportunity to be part of a project of national significance, where collaboration, innovation, and purpose drive meaningful impact. Reporting to the EHS Director, the EHS Advisor will be responsible for actively promoting a health, safety and environmental culture to all levels of employees with the policies and procedures of Aecon’s Health, Safety and Environmental Manual. Facilitate employee health and safety orientation, and site-specific safety orientation to workers, owners and clients.

Training supervisors and staff on Aecon Health, Safety and Environmental Manual. Training employees in traffic protection, traffic control person, WHMIS, respiratory protection, emergency response. Coordinate training such as WHMIS, First Aid, Propane etc.

Conduct workplace inspections and audits.

Update Material Safety Data

Sheets as required.



Develop workplace plans – such as emergency evacuations, fire emergency, traffic controls, fall protection. Distribution of safety material supplies and equipment. Safety presentations to clients.

Promoting the Aecon safety system to potential industry clients. Participate as a management member of Joint Health and Safety Committees. Inspects project facilities and recommends corrective actions.

Co-ordinate activities of site-safety coordinators. Working with the Claims Administrator assists with workers compensation claims and associated activities. Mediate health and safety issues for resolution.

Prepare and assist with external safety audits. Coordination of environmental issues. Minimum 3 years’ experience in the construction industry in a Health and Safety role. Robust knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act for Ontario.

Ability to work with limited supervision and to be proactive. Adaptable to flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines. Availability to work on site 5 days per week. Travel to different locations as required.
