Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Assistant Controller to support the financial operations of a retail and inventory-driven business. You will assist the Controller in managing all accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, and providing insights that aid strategic decision-making.

The ideal candidate brings experience in retail, fashion, apparel, or consumer goods, with strong knowledge of inventory accounting and the ability to excel in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.

Key Responsibilities

Support month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, reconciliations, and financial statement preparation.

Assist in preparing and analyzing financial statements in accordance with GAAP.





Collaborate with operations and merchandising teams to ensure accurate inventory valuation and COGS reporting.

Monitor and strengthen internal controls; help implement best practices for compliance and efficiency.

Support budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.

Prepare schedules and documentation for external audits and tax filings.

Identify opportunities to streamline processes and support financial system improvements or implementations.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.

5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally in fashion, retail, or consumer goods.

Strong knowledge of GAAP and inventory accounting.

Experience with ERP/accounting systems (e.g., AX Dynamics).

Asset-based lending experience is an asset.

Advanced Excel skills; strong financial analysis capabilities.

High attention to detail, strong analytical thinking, and excellent communication skills.

Ability to thrive in a team-oriented, fast-paced environment.
