Exhibits & Collection Interpreter

The London Children’s Museum is seeking an enthusiastic, visitor‑focused Exhibits & Collection Interpreter to join our Visitor Experience team. The ideal candidate will help provide families with engaging learning opportunities through the development and delivery of hands‑on museum programming, ensuring visitors have a positive and memorable experience. Position: Hourly contract averaging 37.5 hours per week; weekday, evening, and weekend availability required.
Contract Dates: August 17, 2026 – March 12, 2027.
Compensation: $19.00 per hour.

Key Responsibilities

Provide an exceptional experience and customer service to all visitors.

Facilitate quality museum public programming, including star shows, fossil demonstrations, artifact interaction experiences, and STEAM‑centred activities that encourage curiosity and hands‑on learning.

Design and develop new inquiry‑based facilitated public programs that effectively connect visitors of all ages with exhibits and/or the collection.

Interact with families and proactively respond to visitor needs.

Invoke children’s natural curiosity through the use of materials, exhibits, and artifacts.

Evaluate existing public programs to enhance content, improve engagement, widen learning opportunities, and increase accessibility to elevate the visitor experience.

Support Visitor Experience staff team members in developing and integrating educational strategies and interpretive approaches to highlight the collection in everyday interactions.

Update and standardize program documentation and develop evaluation tools.

Create a secure and welcoming environment by maintaining exhibit cleanliness, museum tidiness, and overall organization.

Model the London Children’s Museum values and pedagogy in all interactions.

Skills & Requirements

Must provide a Vulnerable Sector Check if over the age of 18.

Standard First Aid and CPR C training is an asset.

Previous experience with program facilitation is an asset.

Previous experience working with children and families is an asset.

Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time effectively.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Excellent interpersonal skills.

High attention to detail.

Creative problem‑solving and flexible thinking skills.

Basic computer skills in Microsoft and Google products.

Ability to engage in moderate physical activity on a daily basis.

Availability to work weekends, holidays, and some evenings.

Education
Post‑secondary education in Museum Studies, Public History, Art and Culture, or a related field.

This Position Is Funded Under The Young Canada Works At Building Careers In Heritage Internship Program

Canadian citizen, a permanent resident, or a person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the immigration and refugee protection act.

Legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with provincial legislation and regulations.

Between the ages of 16 and 30 years at the start of employment (August 17 2026).

College or university graduate (certificate, bachelor’s, master’s, or doctorate).

Willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment (August 17 2026 – March 12 2027).

Not employed by another full‑time position (over 30 hours per week).

Priority given to graduates who have not previously participated in YCW internship programs and that are unemployed or underemployed.
