Position Overview
We are looking for an Animal DNA Analyst 1 in 335 Laird Rd, Suites 2, 3B, 4, 5, Guelph, ON N1G 4P7 CAN. Your mission will be to support high‑throughput DNA analysis, including sample preparation, DNA extraction, DNA amplification, and electrophoresis, while ensuring strict adherence to quality protocols, safety guidelines and ISO 17025 requirements.

Responsibilities

DNA Analysis & Data Generation: Perform routine high‑throughput molecular biology procedures, including sample preparation, DNA extraction, DNA amplification setup (PCR, qPCR & dPCR) and electrophoresis.

Equipment Operation & Maintenance: Operate and maintain thermal cyclers and capillary electrophoresis systems, utilizing accompanying data‑collection software.

Quality Assurance & Compliance: Ensure laboratory procedures and QA protocols are followed and assist with ISO 17025 compliance.

Documentation: Maintain accurate laboratory records and prepare standards and reagents as per the analyst schedule.

Health & Safety: Follow Occupational Health and Safety practices for hazardous and bio‑hazardous materials.

Collaboration & Communication: Coordinate and communicate with colleagues to support operational efficiency and project management.

Physical Demands: Remain focused for extended periods, handle a high volume of samples, and wear PPE such as laboratory coats, gloves and safety goggles.

Qualifications

Education: Biological Technician Diploma or a similar technical course related to laboratory analysis. A B.Sc. in a relevant scientific discipline is an asset.





Technical Knowledge: Experience with DNA analytical procedures (DNA extraction, PCR setup), instrumentation (thermal cyclers, capillary electrophoresis) and related data‑collection software.

Sample Handling: Knowledge of sample handling procedures to preserve sample continuity and integrity under quality protocols.

Safety Awareness: Familiarity with laboratory Occupational Health and Safety practices for hazardous materials.

Technical Skills: Excellent manual dexterity, precise record‑keeping, mathematical calculations, and problem‑solving skills.

Operational Attributes: High attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and efficient time management.

Work Style: Ability to work independently on routine procedures while maintaining effective team collaboration.

Compensation & Benefits
Compensation: $22‑26 CAD per hour
