About the role
Jacobs is looking for a highly motivated, adaptable, and communicative team player to join projects in Plympton, Wyoming, Ontario. Reporting to the Lead Operator and/or Project Manager, the Water and Wastewater Operator is an entry‑level position responsible for the overall day‑to‑day operations, maintenance and compliance of municipal water and wastewater systems.
Responsibilities
Operate and maintain municipal water and wastewater systems in accordance with all applicable regulations and the Drinking Water Quality Management Standard (DWQMS).
Respond to after‑hour calls and alarms associated with the municipal systems, and live within a one‑hour radius of the project to enable prompt response.
Assist in the repair, replacement, installation, and maintenance of system components.
Help develop a working knowledge of water and wastewater treatment processes, water distribution, and collection systems.
Support computer software applications used to operate and maintain the system, including data collection and reporting.
Take samples, interpret results, and make process control adjustments to resolve operating issues.
Keep accurate logs and write reports for maintenance and compliance purposes.
Work as part of a team with other operators and contractors to ensure proper operation of the systems.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Valid Class G driver’s licence.
Desire to learn about water and wastewater operations and willingness to obtain Operator in Training licences.
Ability to read and interpret maintenance manuals, blueprints, and technical specifications.
Familiarity with computers, SCADA, and operational and process data collection/reporting systems.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment, manage multiple changing demands and priorities.
Physical ability to perform routine preventive maintenance, work in a physically demanding environment.
Preferred Qualifications
Current Class 1, 2, or 3 licenses in wastewater treatment, water distribution or supply, and wastewater collection.
Knowledge of laboratory analytical procedures and QA/QC programmes.
Experience or knowledge of regulatory and legislative acts, codes, policies, guidelines, and procedures related to water operations and maintenance.
Working Conditions & Physical Requirements
Safety is a core value at Jacobs. This position will spend a substantial amount of time performing safety‑sensitive labour or services. The role demands a physically demanding work environment and involves operating outside normal business hours.
Compensation
Base salary range: $49,920.00 to $62,400.00 (Ontario, Canada). Remuneration is based on experience and level of licence held. The position is a one‑year contract with prospect for full‑time employment after the contract expires. Jacobs offers a competitive benefit package and an RRSP matching program.
