Job Description
Reporting to the Manager of Primary Health, the Nurse Practitioner will: provides clinical support related to high risk behaviours of population; provides chronic disease management and treatment of common medical problems for people who have significant barriers to accessing health care; supports referrals to other health services as needed. Work reflects understanding of determinants of health that influence health in the core neighborhoods. Works with Health Care, Community and Intersectoral partners such as Public Health and EMS department of Social Work to improve the health of citizens in Saskatoon core neighborhoods. Has an increased understanding and sensitivity to aboriginal culture and effects on health care delivery. Demonstrates capacity to engage people in health enhancing education, activities and services.

Experience

Three (3) years full-time experience as a Registered Nurse

Two (2) years advanced RN (NP) in applicable area

Education

Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)

Licenses

Valid Class 5 driver's license

Other Education and Training

Nursing diploma is acceptable

Basic Life Support Certificate (BLS)

Demonstrates empathy, trust and respect in the provision of care

Therapeutic intervention skills working relevant to practice of the RN(NP) role

Knowledge of health needs of urban individuals, families and communities

Knowledge in assessment, treatment and education related to sexual health

Ability to adapt to changing conditions

Ability to take initiative

Commitment to continued learning and career development.

Demonstrates clinical/health assessment, diagnostic, pharmacotherapeutic

Demonstrates educational skills & strategies produce positive healthy outcomes

Ability to provide holistic care to individuals, families & the community

Other Information

One (1) year nursing experience in a primary health care setting preferred

May be eligible for Recruitment and/or Retention Incentives

Registered/eligible for registration with the CRNS as RN (NP)
