Highway 24 Veterinary Clinic is seeking an experienced, motivated, and compassionate Senior Veterinary Assistant to join our growing team. This position is ideal for an individual who excels in both patient care and surgical support, enjoys mentoring others, and is committed to delivering an exceptional client and patient experience.
Why are we hiring for this position? Over the past five years, several outstanding team members who excelled in this role have successfully gained admission to Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) and Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) programs. We are proud to have supported their professional growth and are excited to continue this tradition as two additional team members leave us to begin their veterinary education journeys in September, 2026.
As a key member of our medical team, the Senior Veterinary Assistant will work closely with veterinarians and Registered Veterinary Technicians to support patient care throughout the hospital, with a significant focus on surgical preparation, assistance, and recovery.

Key Responsibilities
Surgical Support
Prepare surgical suites, instruments, packs,
and equipment for daily procedures
Prepare patients for surgery, including admission procedures, patient restraint, clipping, scrubbing, and surgical site preparation
Assist veterinarians and RVTs during surgical procedures by maintaining aseptic technique and anticipating procedural needs
Monitor and maintain surgical inventory and sterile supplies
Clean, sterilize, package, and maintain surgical instruments and equipment
Assist with patient recovery and post‑operative monitoring under veterinary supervision
Ensure accurate surgical records and treatment documentation are maintained
Support implementation and adherence to hospital surgical and anesthesia protocols
Clinical Duties
Assist veterinarians and RVTs with examinations, treatments, diagnostics, and patient care
Collect and process laboratory samples
Obtain patient histories and record medical information accurately
Perform radiography and assist with diagnostic procedures
Prepare medications and support pharmacy operations
Maintain treatment and examination areas to the highest standards of cleanliness and organization
Assist with hospitalized patient care and monitoring
Leadership and Team Development
Support workflow efficiency and continuous improvement efforts
Serve as a positive role model and resource for the clinical team
Promote a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and accountability
Client Service
Provide exceptional client communication and education
Support admission and discharge appointments
Explain post‑operative care instructions and treatment plans as directed by the veterinarian
Build trusting relationships with clients through compassionate and skilled interactions
Qualifications
Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a companion animal veterinary practice
Demonstrated experience supporting surgical procedures and maintaining surgical asepsis
Strong animal handling and restraint skills
Excellent understanding of veterinary hospital operations and patient care standards
Exceptional organizational and multitasking abilities
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Leadership, coaching, or mentoring experience is considered a strong asset
Commitment to patient advocacy, teamwork, and continuous learning
