The Opportunity
The City of Selkirk is currently in search of a Light Equipment Operator to join our team. Under the direction of the Manager of Public Works and the Manager of Parks and Recreation Facilities, the Light Equipment Operator (LEO) is responsible for operating all light equipment related to the operation and maintenance of municipal infrastructure works for the Corporation.

Job Duties

Municipal Infrastructure Operation and Maintenance

Operate equipment for cleaning, maintenance, installation, repair, construction and snow removal of roads, streets, lanes, sidewalks, boulevards, parking lots, green spaces and recreational facilities.

Equipment Operation and Maintenance

Operate a variety of light equipment required for public works, parks and recreational maintenance.

Perform pre‑trip inspections, routine checks, minor servicing, cleaning,



and basic maintenance of the equipment they are operating.

Inform the Director, Manager and/or Mechanic of any required significant maintenance or safety problems on equipment or vehicles being operated.

Perform other related duties as may be assigned.

Qualifications / Minimum Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent

Valid Class 5 or G Driver’s License

Skid Steer Certification

Confirmed skill in the operation of designated equipment including multi‑purpose utility vehicle, front‑mount riding mower, tractors, skid steer, and related attachments. Competency will be evaluated.

Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, and understand written and verbal instructions.

Ability to work independently with minimum supervision.

Desired Qualifications

Valid Class 3 Driver’s License with air brake endorsement or air brake endorsement ticket

One (1) year experience within works and operations in a municipal corporation or similar vocation.

This is a Temporary Unionized position open to all applicants. Preference will be given to established members of CUPE Local 336 as outlined in the Collective Agreement.
