Senior Java Software Engineer - Kafka

Overview

Our client is seeking a Senior Java Software Engineer to join a Platform Engineering team responsible for building contemporary, enterprise-grade APIs and microservices. This role offers the opportunity to develop cloud-native solutions from the ground up while working with modern technologies including Kubernetes, Kafka, Spring Boot, and AWS.

Responsibilities
Design, develop, and deploy Java REST APIs and microservices
Build event-driven services using Kafka
Develop cloud-native applications using Spring Boot, Docker, and Kubernetes
Collaborate with architecture and engineering teams to deliver scalable solutions
Support CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices
Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve application issues
Mentor junior developers and contribute to technical best practices
Support and enhance legacy Java applications when required

Required Qualifications
5+ years of Java application development experience
Strong experience with Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, SOAP, JSON, OpenAPI/Swagger




Experience building microservices and web services
Hands-on experience with Kafka or Kafka Streams
Experience with CI/CD and DevOps tools such as Jenkins, Artifactory, Bitbucket, Maven, or Ansible
Experience working across the full software development lifecycle
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
Post-secondary education in Computer Science or a related field

Nice to Have
Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Okta, MongoDB, or PostgreSQL
Experience with WebSphere, DB2, Spring MVC, SonarQube, or IBM ODM
Exposure to Enterprise Service Bus (ESB) technologies
Financial services or Group Retirement domain experience
