The Opportunity
Reporting to the Team Lead or Supervisor, the Sanitation Technician performs advanced cleaning tasks, including the disassembly and reassembly of production equipment, to ensure compliance with strict food safety, hygiene, and regulatory standards. This role is responsible for executing complex sanitation procedures, supporting the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS), and guiding Sanitation Associates in cleaning protocols. The Technician ensures all areas and equipment are cleaned to the highest standard, promoting a safe, audit‑ready production environment.

What You’ll Do
Advanced Sanitation Execution

Disassembles, cleans, inspects, and reassembles production equipment according to SSOPs

Executes detailed cleaning procedures for hard‑to‑reach or high‑risk zones

Follows the Master Sanitation Schedule (MSS) accurately and on time

Conducts or supports ATP swab testing to verify cleaning effectiveness

Mixes and applies cleaning chemicals safely and in accordance with specifications

Operates high‑pressure washers, foamers, floor scrubbers and other industrial cleaning equipment

Identifies equipment damage, wear, or sanitation risks and reports to leadership/maintenance

Compliance & Documentation

Completes sanitation checklists, logs, and verification records accurately

Maintains GMP compliance and adheres to HACCP and WHMIS requirements





Participates in internal and external audits as required

Follows all health, safety, and environmental procedures

Team Support & Leadership

Guides and supports Sanitation Associates in proper cleaning techniques and safety practices

Trains new team members on equipment‑specific cleaning procedures

Shares best practices and contributes to continuous improvement initiatives

Assists Team Leads with workflow coordination during peak cleaning periods

Other Duties
At Village Farms we are all growers at heart. Our plants and processes require in‑person care and attention to ensure we’re bringing the best our plants and people have to offer to our consumers. This means other duties may arise since we work together to ensure we support all business activities – seed to sale.

This role is on‑site, which requires you to work on the facility at all times in a Technician, Sanitation role or directly supporting operations.

This position Shift Time – Graveyard – 9:00pm-5:30am.
What You Bring
Education

High School Diploma or equivalent required

Certification in HACCP and WHMIS is necessary (willing to obtain)

Certification in GMP or Food Safety is an asset

Experience

Minimum 1-2 years of experience in sanitation within food manufacturing, pharmaceuticals, or a regulated production environment

Experience with equipment disassembly and industrial cleaning processes

Experience using ATP testing, SSOPs, and sanitation documentationFamiliarity with chemical handling and PPE requirements





Experience with using manual tools

Knowledge & Skills

In-depth knowledge of sanitation procedures, chemical safety, and food safety regulations

Solid knowledge of sanitation procedures and food safety standards

Understanding of GMPs, HACCP, and WHMIS

Mechanical aptitude and attention to detail

Ability to follow complex cleaning instructions

Team‑oriented with willingness to mentor others

Basic computer skills for reporting (Excel, Outlook) is an asset

Adaptable and resilient in a dynamic, 24/7 production environment

Physical Requirements

Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry up to 40-50 lbs on a regular basis throughout the shift

Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, and climb for extended periods

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs when handling chemicals, tools, or equipment

Frequent use of hands for operating cleaning tools, equipment, and computers

Frequent exposure to wet, cold, hot and noisy environments

Must wear full PPE including gloves, goggles, aprons, waterproof boots and earplugs

Able to work in dusty environment (not allergic to dust)

Availability to work flexible shifts, weekends, and holidays occasionally based on production schedules
