Residential Worker (Overnight Shift) Location: Kelowna, BC (Emergency Youth Shelter)
Organization: BGC Okanagan
This is a temporary position ending March 31, 2027. The role provides direct support to youth to address physical, emotional, social, educational, housing, and medical needs and to help develop essential life skills through daily living support.

Overview
Residential Workers support residents in a shelter environment, promote safety, and assist with program goals through person-centered care and collaboration with professionals and family supports.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Participate in case management and care planning by conducting assessments, setting goals, and assisting with the development, implementation, and evaluation of Personal Service Plans (PSPs) for residents.

Coordinate with counsellors, professionals, and natural supports to develop PSPs that help residents achieve their goals; contribute to progress evaluations and prepare required reports.

Provide life skills training (meal preparation, housekeeping, personal care, financial management) and connect residents with social, educational, recreational, and community services.

Transport and support residents in attending appointments, shopping, and leisure activities.

Engage residents in client-focused activities aligned with their PSPs.

Promote safety and prevent crises through person-centered care, proactive collaboration, and early intervention strategies.

Respond to potential emergencies, including managing aggressive behaviors,



to ensure safety; report incidents and participate in problem solving.

Administer or monitor medications in accordance with policies. May be required to administer Naloxone (NARCAN) in emergencies, following training and procedures.

Provide emotional support, encouragement, and feedback to residents and their families.

Perform household and facility maintenance duties, including laundry, cleaning, meal preparation, grocery shopping, yard work, and snow removal.

Maintain accurate records and documentation, including statistics, logbooks, youth files (digital and paper), case notes, and incident reports.

Qualifications

Certificate in a related human or social services field.

Minimum of one (1) year of recent, relevant experience.

An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience may be considered.

Successful completion of the Agency’s screening process, including a criminal record check.

Full-time and Part-time positions available

Schedule and Compensation

Full-Time: Tuesday–Saturday, 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Part-Time: Friday & Saturday, 12:00 AM – 8:00 AM; Sunday & Monday, 11:00 PM – 7:00 AM

Rate of Pay: $25.95 per hour

Hours: Full-time and part-time hours as listed
