Child Care and After School Supervisor (Maternity Leave Coverage)
Overview
The YMCA of Southwestern New Brunswick is addressing critical regional issues, including health challenges, population decline, youth outmigration, and child poverty. The Y aims to build a diverse and inclusive community where each person is valued for their unique perspectives and contributions. We offer programs across 19 locations in the city and surrounding municipalities, supported by a team of staff and volunteers.

The position is a 12–18 month maternity leave coverage contract. The successful candidate will join the team on a temporary basis to provide leadership and operational support while a team member is on maternity leave.

Responsibilities

Ensure compliance with the New Brunswick Child Care and After School Facilities Standards and implement a consistent child-centered program in line with YMCA and New Brunswick standards.

Adhere to the YMCA Playing to Learn, Place to Connect Curriculum, and the Recent Brunswick Curriculum Framework.

Demonstrate a commitment to children’s learning and respond to current research.

Manage and coordinate day-to-day program operations and serve as the direct contact for participants and referrals.

Promote programs within the community and collaborate with the supervisor on recruitment strategies to ensure program success.

Arrange for effective program delivery (space, facilitation, child care, materials, supplies, snacks) and retain overall responsibility for meeting delivery conditions.

Oversee day-to-day administration and record-keeping for programs; provide verbal and written reports as required and per the work plan.

Administer programs in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures and ensure timely submission of reports and records.

Understand, follow, and promote YMCA Child Protection policies and procedures with staff and within the center.

Analyze weekly center metrics, identify patterns, and suggest actions to meet targets when underperforming.





Collaborate with City of Saint John and Anglophone South School District; maintain clear communication regarding program status and issues.

Direct supervision, recruitment, and performance management of Child Care, After School, and Day Camp staff.

Develop and manage center budgets; monitor to target monthly, keep accounts receivable current, and follow collections policies.

Implement and monitor Playing to Learn, Place to Connect, Child Protection, and Licensing inspections per action plans.

Attend Playing to Learn and Place to Connect trainings provided by YMCA to enhance program development.

Qualifications

ECE Certificate or equivalent training.

Minimum of 2 years of experience in a Child Care, After-School, or Youth program.

Supervisory experience is an asset.

Flexibility with working hours, including split shifts and multiple site locations.

Strong work ethic and excellent organizational skills.

Ability to prioritize tasks and maintain focus in a busy center.

Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills; a team player.

Medical Certificate.

Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search; employment contingent on clearance.
