Job Description
Reporting to the Nutrition, Food, Linen and Environmental Services (NFLES) Supervisor and Manager, the Food Service Worker I is responsible for the setup, service, and delivery of resident meals in accordance with prescribed diet orders using Connect Care diet reports. Responsibilities include stocking the kitchen upon delivery of food orders and replenishing nourishment centers, maintaining accurate records of food supplies, and communicating diet‑related information between care units and the kitchen to ensure accurate and high‑quality meal service.
The Food Service Worker portions, packages, and serves food items according to established menus, therapeutic diet protocols, portion control guidelines, and temperature standards within an acute care or continuing care environment. Additional duties include providing food service in a retail capacity during cafeteria hours, performing dishwashing, ensuring proper storage of dishes and utensils, and completing regular and scheduled cleaning tasks within the kitchen and food service areas. All duties are carried out in accordance with established operating standards and the Mission, Vision, Values, policies, and procedures of Covenant Health and La Crete Community Health Centre. The role requires interacting with residents, families, visitors, coworkers, supervisors, and managers in a respectful, compassionate,
and professional manner.
Required Qualifications
Completion of Grade 10 or recognized equivalent.
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with fluency in English; proficient in basic computer applications; ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team; strong time‑management and organizational skills; ability to follow directions, meet deadlines, and maintain a high level of attention to detail.
Physically capable of standing for extended periods and occasionally lifting up to 60 lbs.; able to work effectively within a continuing care setting while maintaining professionalism and resilience.
All employees required to provide a satisfactory criminal record check and disclosure of any prior convictions, record suspensions or pardons for sexual offences.
Preferred Qualifications
Previous food service experience in a continuing care, healthcare, or institutional setting.
WHMIS certification, Food Safe certification, and coursework in customer service.
Benefits
Northern Allowance up to $6,300 per year, payable on an hourly basis for all hours paid at the basic rate of pay.
Travel expense reimbursement up to $1,235 per year for employees working in excess of one year whose work sites are above the 57th parallel.
