Secretariat Of The Haida Nation

British Columbia

Join the Council of the Haida Nation! The Council of the Haida Nation (CHN) is responsible for the stewardship of lands, waters and people. Working with CHN means being part of a team that values collaboration, cultural knowledge, and meaningful contributions to the well‑being of the Haida.

About The Role
We are a small, community‑focused farm on Haida Gwaii. Haida owned and operated, located in Tlaal/Tlell, with six under construction greenhouses and several outdoor growing areas. Our farm does not include livestock or irrigation systems; instead, we rely on hands‑on growing practices, soil stewardship, and climate‑adapted methods suited to Haida Gwaii’s coastal setting.

We will be growing vegetables, herbs, and specialty crops for local markets and food programs, with a focus on sustainability, ecological health, and supporting local food security.

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys physical work, learning practical farm skills, and contributing to a small, supportive team.

Key Duties & Responsibilities
Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

Greenhouse & Field Work

Seeding, transplanting, and bed preparation

Manual watering and moisture monitoring (no automated irrigation)

Soil management, compost handling and mulching

Trellising, pruning, and plant care in greenhouse environments

Farm Maintenance

Pathway maintenance and tool care

Assisting with small repairs in seasonal setup/cleanup

Market & Community Support

Preparing produce for local sales

Occasional participation in community markets

Qualifications & Skills
We are looking for someone who brings some of the following (we encourage all interested applicants to apply—even if you don’t meet every bullet):

Previous farm, garden, greenhouse, or outdoor labour experience is an asset

Comfort working in coastal weather conditions

Basic tools and small equipment handling experience preferred

Reliable, self‑motivated, and able to work independently

Physically able to lift, bend, kneel, and work on feet for extended periods

Strong attention to detail

Interest in sustainable agriculture or local food systems

Valid class 5 driver’s license is an asset

Preference will be given to Haida candidates as per Section 41 of the Human Rights Code.

What We Offer

Hourly rate: $24.02 - $24.99 based on experience.

Full‑time (35-40 hrs./week), Seasonal

Supportive, hands‑on learning environment

Opportunities to gain experience in small scale greenhouse production

Flexible scheduling depending on weather and crop cycles
