The Opportunity The Recreation Worker plans, develops, and runs a variety of meaningful recreation and leisure pursuits that promote wellbeing, purpose, creativity, a sense of community, lifelong learning, and fun. The role facilitates planned and spontaneous opportunities to support the maintenance and development of resident skills and knowledge as well as the development of relationships and personal connections.
Responsibilities Plan, develop, and implement daily recreation and leisure activities both in the home and in the community using resident information and preferences.
Create and maintain engaging spaces/environments in the home that support meaningful activity and participation.
Communicate effectively with residents, families, volunteers, community groups, and agencies.
Observe, report, and document changes in residents’ ability to participate in activities and update care plans as appropriate.




Support all departments in fostering resident engagement.
Model and lead programs that maximize residents’ skills and abilities.
Participate in ongoing evaluation of the recreation program and related quality improvement processes.
Qualifications Prior experience working with seniors, preferably in a long‑term care setting.
Graduate of a post‑secondary diploma or degree program in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, or a related field from a community college or university.
Alternatively, a post‑secondary degree or diploma in a health‑care related field with demonstrated skills and experience in providing recreation and leisure services in a health‑care setting, including planning, developing, and facilitating meaningful activities across all domains of wellness, assessment, care planning, therapeutic programming techniques, and supporting others to foster a culture of resident engagement.
Enrolled in a diploma or degree program in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, or a related field with the intent to complete the program within three years of being hired (if still studying).
Salary Range $24.25 – $26.28 per hour (placement based on qualifications and experience).
