The Niagara Catholic District School Board invites applications for the position of Casual Library Technician. Casual Library Technician staff work on an on call basis, filling in for school Library Technician staff on a short term or long term basis as required.
What You Can Expect
Develop, organize and maintain a collection of diverse library materials
Locate resource information for students, teachers and parents
Deliver library services such as adding copies, bar coding, spine labeling, stamping, jacketing, reinforcing, circulation, shelving, filing, repairing, weeding, tracking inter‑library loan transactions, maintaining periodicals, preparing displays, maintaining inventory, and setting up and demonstrating proper use of equipment
Demonstrate proper use of resources
Support teachers’ instructional programs
Participate in Board initiated professional development and organizational meetings
What You Bring
Library Technician Diploma from a recognized post‑secondary institution or equivalent
Three months experience with the Dewey Decimal Classification System, and cataloguing procedures according to AACR2 and SEARS Subject Headings, MARC records, standard library cataloging basics
Computer and audio‑visual equipment knowledge and experience
Good interpersonal and artistic skills to promote the library
Knowledge of the current automation system
Ability to work under minimal supervision, to organize time efficiently, and to work well with a variety of people
Locations
Must be able to travel to all locations within the Niagara Catholic District School Board jurisdiction.
Hours
Varies as needed on a casual on‑call basis. Must be available Monday to Friday for Elementary and Secondary School hours.
As a condition of employment, successful candidates will be required to provide a satisfactory Police Record Check, dated within the past six months of the hire date. This position requires completion of a Police Vulnerable Sector Check. For more information, please refer to 201.18 Police Record Check & Offence Declaration AOP on the Board’s website.
