Nature of the Work
The position of social worker involves prevention, promotion, screening, and evaluation of the social functioning of students. The role includes determining and implementing social intervention plans, supporting students’ optimal development, and facilitating their educational journey.

Characteristic Functions

Contribute to screening and identification of students experiencing social, family, personal or school problems.

Evaluate students’ social functioning through record study, direct observation, interviews, consultations, and questionnaires.

Implement individualized education plans with a social component to meet each student’s needs.

Work with a multidisciplinary team to develop, implement and review intervention plans.

Conduct individual or group counseling sessions, provide follow‑up with parents, and refer to appropriate resources.

Advise teachers and other school resources and provide necessary support and supervision.





Participate in the development and delivery of screening, awareness and prevention programs.

Prepare expert reports, evaluations, briefs and progress reports; make recommendations for decision‑making.

May assist in crisis or emergency situations and recommend solutions.

Maintain and update files, progress notes and reports in accordance with professional standards.

Required Qualifications
Be a member of the Ordre professionnel des travailleurs sociaux et des thérapeutes conjugaux et familiaux du Québec.

Related experience with preschool, elementary, or secondary‑aged children is essential.

Familiarity with community organizations/services for children.

Training and experience with trauma‑informed practices is essential.

Ability to work collaboratively with team members to support, coordinate and present relevant sessions.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English and French.

Willingness and ability to travel throughout the Western Quebec School Board territory using a personal vehicle.

Contract Conditions

Under clauses 5‑2.01 and 5‑2.04 of the 2023‑2028 local agreement, a contract for a supernumerary or regular professional who does not meet the required qualifications will terminate automatically on June 30 of the current school year.
