Whether you are entering the workforce to learn or advancing your career to help grow the next generation of subject matter experts, BESTECH is the place for you.Your Role as Automation EngineerReporting to the Supervisor of Automation Engineering Services, the Automation Specialist will provide PLC/DCS/HMI expertise for automation projects and lead design, programming, and commissioning activities. You will maintain project schedules and ensure successful project completion, executing, coordinating, and expediting a succession of different engineering activities as part of capital expenditure projects. You will establish project strategy, review drawings, and ensure design and detailing adhere to jurisdictional requirements while delivering technical, financial, and social solutions for our clients.Your Key AccountabilitiesTechnical and DocumentationIndependently prepare and verify moderate to complex technical calculations and problems.Collaborate with internal and external subject matter experts to perform and finalize programming, detailed designs, and technical drawings in accordance with applicable codes, regulations and client standards.Conduct site visits for commissioning activities, data collection, and assessments; provide recommendationsfor remedial action and ensure build quality aligns with design.Lead QAQC (quality assurance/quality control) checks as required.Complete and review project documentation and technical reports.Assign, outline, and prioritize work for engineers or technologists according to project demands.Business Development & Client ManagementParticipate in client meetings to gather technical requirements and provide insights and solutions as needed.Foster relationships with clients by delivering quality work, maintaining professionalism,



and responding to inquiries promptly.Assist project managers in tracking project timelines, budgets, and resources to ensure on-time delivery.Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams, suppliers, and contractors to ensure smooth project execution.Assist in the preparation of project proposals, including scope definition and cost estimation, to secure new business opportunities.Maintain effective communication with clients, team members, and contractors throughout the project lifecycle.Manage smaller mechanical and multi-discipline projects, ensuring client satisfaction and project success.Skilled DevelopmentParticipate in training and certification programs, as required.Attend relevant industry workshops and seminars, as required.Drive a culture of continuous improvement and professional growth.Stay up-to-date and evaluate current industry technology.Provide mentorship and leadership to junior engineers and staff.Engage in learning opportunities to develop technical and professional skills.Qualifications4-7 years of related automation engineering design experience is required.A degree in electrical, mechatronics, or software engineering or equivalent is required.Registered with PEO and holds a Professional Engineering License (P.Eng) or equivalent in Canada.Extensive knowledge in automation technology and automation products including new and legacy PLC and SCADA systems including, but not limited to:Schneider Control ExpertSchneider Process ExpertAveva Solutions (formerly Wonderware)RS Logix 5000 and/or Studio 5000Factory Talk Design StudioFoxboro GalaxyFoxboro FoxDrawEmerson Delta VPI historianExperience in specifying new automated systems for green field mines and mining plants is an asset.Extensive knowledge in commissioning large systems.Strong industrial experience,



with experience in surface and underground mining.Knowledge of mining-related processes a definite asset.Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suites applications.Strong analytical and project management skills (project management skills considered an asset).Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.Detail-oriented with a commitment to producing high-quality work.Strong commitment to safety, quality, and sustainable design practices.Willingness to travel, if required, and attend meetings and field visits on client sites.Valid driver’s license with access to a personal vehicle is required.Working ConditionsHybrid work location options available.Travel to client sites is required on occasion to attend meetings and conduct field visits.TermFull-Time, Permanent (40 hours/week)Total CompensationThe salary range for this position is $100,000 to $120,000 CAD per annum, based on responsibilities, internal equity, and market benchmarks. The final offer will be determined by factors including skills, experience, qualifications, internal placement, and geographic cost of living where applicable.
