CNC Operator / Fabricator (6-month Contract with Potential of Permanent)
Position Summary
The CNC Operator / Fabricator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Company's CNC machining equipment, including the Weeke Optimat BHP 200 CNC Router, to manufacture high-quality plastic, composite and related components used in skylight systems and other custom products. The position is responsible for machine setup, program execution, material preparation, quality inspection and general fabrication duties while supporting production schedules and continuous improvement initiatives. The CNC Operator / Fabricator works closely with production, engineering and quality personnel to ensure products are manufactured accurately, efficiently and in accordance with customer specifications.

Key Responsibilities
CNC Machine Operation

Operate the Weeke Optimat BHP 200 CNC Router and other production equipment safely and efficiently.

Set up machines for production runs including tooling, fixtures, vacuum systems and material positioning.

Create, modify and optimize CNC machining programs using the Company's programming software and workstation.

Transfer, load and verify CNC programs prior to machining operations.

Monitor machining operations to ensure dimensional accuracy and product quality.

Perform routine adjustments to optimize machine performance and production efficiency.

Troubleshoot minor machine issues and elevate mechanical or programming concerns when required.

Fabrication & Production

Fabricate plastic, acrylic, polycarbonate and related products in accordance with drawings and work instructions.

Cut, machine, drill, rout, shape and finish materials to specification.

Perform assembly, fitting and finishing operations as required.

Assist with custom fabrication and prototype work.





Maintain production output while ensuring product quality standards are achieved.

Quality Control

Inspect finished components using measuring equipment and visual inspection techniques.

Verify dimensions against drawings and production specifications.

Identify defects, non-conforming products and quality concerns.

Complete production and quality documentation as required.

Equipment Maintenance

Perform daily equipment inspections and routine preventative maintenance.

Maintain tooling and cutting equipment in good working condition.

Keep machinery and work areas clean and organized.

Report maintenance requirements promptly.

Safety

Operate all equipment in accordance with Company safety policies and safe work procedures.

Wear required personal protective equipment.

Maintain a clean and organized work environment.

Participate in safety meetings and continuous improvement initiatives.

Team Support

Assist other production departments as workload requires.

Cross‑train on additional manufacturing equipment.

Support continuous improvement, lean manufacturing and waste reduction initiatives.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education

High school diploma or equivalent.

Manufacturing or machining education considered an asset.

Experience

Experience operating CNC routers or machining centres in a manufacturing workplace.

Experience reading manufacturing drawings and specifications.

Experience working with plastics, composites,



aluminum or similar materials is considered an asset.

Experience with custom manufacturing or architectural products is an asset.

Knowledge & Skills

Ability to safely operate CNC manufacturing equipment.

Basic understanding of CNC programming concepts.

Ability to read technical drawings and work instructions.

Strong mechanical aptitude.

Good mathematical and measuring skills.

Experience using precision measuring equipment.

Strong attention to detail.

Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Good organizational and time‑management skills.

Commitment to quality workmanship.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand for extended periods.

Ability to lift up to 50 lbs (23 kg).

Frequent bending, reaching and repetitive movements.

Ability to safely handle sheet goods and finished products.

Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with noise, dust and machinery.
