Casual Custodians assist in maintaining the cleanliness and safety of school buildings, Board facilities and grounds to support an excellent learning and working environment for students and staff.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT
Work independently and as part of a team in a busy school environment
Clean assigned areas following APPA cleaning standards
Promote and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work workplace
Perform daily cleaning tasks including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and disinfecting
Clean classrooms, corridors, gymnasiums, offices, washrooms, and other school areas
Collect and dispose of garbage and recycling from the building and grounds
Wash windows, walls, fixtures, and high-touch surfaces as required
Strip and wax floors, auto‑scrub, and shampoo carpets
Support school setups for exams, events, and activities
Perform seasonal outdoor duties such as snow removal, salting walkways, weed wiping, raking leaves, and trimming hedges
Identify and report hazards, damages, or maintenance concerns to school administration and Facilities Services
Installation of dispensers
Replace regular fluorescent light bulbs when required
Change HVAC filters when required
Troubleshoot minor issues and submit work orders through the Facilities Services online system
Enter supply requests and complete logs through the facilities services on‑line system
Assist with receiving deliveries and moving boxes, furniture, and supplies
Maintain basic inventory of cleaning supplies and notify the Head Caretaker or Coordinator when stock is low
Support building access by locking doors and windows if last to leave, and reporting vandalism or security concerns
Morning opening routines when required (lights, doors, daily checks)
Support special cleaning projects during PA Days, March Break, and summer
Follow all WHMIS, OHSA, and Board safety protocols
Assist in emergency response when required
Perform other duties as assigned
WHAT YOU BRING
Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent
Previous cleaning experience with knowledge of basic cleaning chemicals
Ability to work under minimal supervision
Flexibility and adaptability in a busy school environment
Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills
Reliable transportation to all sites within the Board’s jurisdiction
Ability to organize daily tasks and manage time effectively
Up to one year of experience with floor care equipment and approved cleaning methods
Physical fitness and ability to perform assigned duties (lifting, bending, climbing ladders, repetitive movement)
Ability to use power tools an asset
Boiler system knowledge is an asset
LOCATIONS
Must be able to travel to all locations within the Niagara Catholic District School Board jurisdiction
HOURS
Various morning, afternoon and evening shifts: as needed on a casual on call basis.
Must be available Monday to Friday for Elementary and Secondary School hours
RATE OF PAY : $23.01 per hour (casual/on-call)

As a condition of employment, successful candidates will be required to provide a satisfactory Police Record Check, dated within the past six months of the hire date.
