Electrical Technician
Smarter Alloys | Cambridge, ON

Full‑time, fixed‑term contract (3-6 months)

Not your typical panel shop

At Smarter Alloys, you won’t be building the same control panel over and over. We develop advanced devices ranging from precision medical components to large‑scale clean energy systems. The equipment varies, the designs evolve quickly, and many of the systems we build do not have an off‑the‑shelf solution.

We’re looking for an Electrical Technician to support the assembly, wiring, modification, and testing of electrical control panels and equipment. You’ll work from electrical drawings and schematics, collaborate closely with our engineering team, and help ensure our systems are built in accordance with applicable CSA and ESA requirements.

One week you may be assembling a new control panel from the ground up, and the next you may be modifying existing equipment, troubleshooting wiring, or helping select components for a new design.

If you enjoy hands‑on electrical work, solving practical problems, and working on a wide variety of equipment, this is that kind of role.

What You’ll Do

Build and wire electrical control panels, machinery, and equipment from electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and bill of materials

Install and wire components such as breakers, contactors, relays, power supplies, terminal blocks, disconnects, sensors, and motor‑control equipment

Modify existing panels and equipment to meet design requirements and applicable CSA C22.2 and ESA standards

Route, terminate, label, and organize panel wiring

Select appropriate wire types, conductor sizes, terminals, connectors, and electrical components

Inspect and test completed wiring for continuity, workmanship,

and compliance with drawings

Troubleshoot electrical panels and equipment during assembly and commissioning

Mark up drawings and communicate design changes or discrepancies to the engineering team

Support component selection, supplier communication, quotations, purchasing, and material receiving

Maintain a secure, clean, and organized work area

What We’re Looking For

Diploma or certificate in an Electrical Technician, Electrical Engineering Technician/Technologist, Electromechanical Technician, Industrial Automation, Electrical Assembly, or similar program

Previous experience building and wiring electrical control panels

Strong ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, wiring diagrams, and panel layouts

Understanding of conductor sizes, wire types, termination methods, and electrical component ratings

Familiarity with applicable ESA requirements and CSA electrical standards

Experience using electrical assembly tools, crimpers, ferrules, terminals, and test equipment

Strong attention to detail and commitment to high‑quality workmanship

Good communicator who works well with engineers, technicians, and suppliers

Able to work independently and identify issues before they become problems

Strong safety habits and an organized approach to work

Nice to Haves

Experience with industrial control panels, motor‑control panels,

or custom equipment

Familiarity with CSA C22.2 No.286, SPE‑1000, or industrial control panel certification requirements

Experience wiring PLCs, VFDs, HMIs, motors, sensors, and instrumentation

Experience troubleshooting three‑phase industrial electrical systems

Familiarity with 600 V, 480 V, 240 V, and 120 V equipment

Experience working in a prototype or high‑mix, low‑volume environment

Electrical drafting or drawing‑markup experience

Experience supporting panel inspections, field evaluations, or ESA approval processes
