The Opportunity The Recreation Worker plans, develops, and runs a variety of meaningful recreation and leisure pursuits that promote wellbeing, purpose, creativity, a sense of community, lifelong learning, and fun. The role facilitates planned and spontaneous opportunities to support the maintenance and development of resident skills and knowledge, as well as the development of relationships and personal connections.
Responsibilities Assist in development, planning, and implementation of daily recreation and leisure activities in the home and community, using holistic resident information and choices, consistent with AgeCare’s philosophy.
Assist in creating and maintaining engaging spaces and environments that support meaningful resident activity and participation.
Develop and maintain good communication with residents, families, friends, volunteers, community groups, and agencies.
Observe, report and document changes in residents’ ability to participate in activities, updating the plan of care as appropriate.
Support all departments in their efforts to foster resident engagement through meaningful activities.
Model leadership by conducting programs that support and maximize residents’ skills and abilities.
Participate in ongoing evaluation of the recreation program and related quality improvement processes.




Qualifications Prior experience working with seniors, preferably in a long‑term care setting.
Graduate of a post‑secondary diploma or degree program in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, or a related field from a community college or university.
Enrolled in a diploma or degree program in recreation, leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, or a related field with the intent to complete the program within three years of being hired, OR hold a post‑secondary degree or diploma in a health‑care related field with demonstrated skills, knowledge and experience in providing recreation and leisure services in a health‑care setting, including planning, developing, and facilitating meaningful activities, assessment and care planning, therapeutic programming techniques, and implementation in a long‑term care or health‑care workplace.
Compensation Salary: $22.27 per hour. Salary placement is based on qualifications and experience.
