Assistant Yard Manager - Full Time Barrie
Position Overview
United Lumber & Building Supplies is seeking anAssistant Yard Manager to support the daily operations of the yard while providing strong leadership to the team.

This role is critical in ensuring consistent leadership coverage across all operating hours, supporting staff development, and maintaining a safe, respectful, and productive work environment.

This is a hands-on leadership role that combines management responsibilities with active participation in daily yard operations. The Assistant Yard Manager is expected to lead by example, working alongside employees while supporting customers, managing workflow, overseeing safety, and coaching staff. This position requires an individual who is comfortable balancing leadership duties with physical work in a quick-paced outdoor environment.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Team Support

Providehands-on supervision and direction to yard staff, including part-time andnew employees

Ensurea visible management presence, particularly during evenings and weekends

Supportonboarding, training, and ongoing development of team members

Addressemployee questions, concerns, and day-to-day issues promptly andprofessionally

Modeland reinforce professional workplace behaviour and expectations

Culture & Workplace Conduct

Promotea respectful, inclusive, and professional work environment

Activelyaddress and redirect inappropriate behaviour, gossip, or unprofessionalconduct

Leadby example in communication, conflict resolution, and accountability





Supportcompany initiatives related to workplace culture and employee engagement

Operations & Yard Management

Overseedaily yard operations to ensure efficiency, accuracy, and safety

Coordinateworkflow and staff assignments to meet operational demands

Ensureloads are built accurately and in accordance with company standards

Supportinventory control, organization, and yard housekeeping

Health & Safety

Enforceall health and safety policies and procedures

Ensureproper use of PPE and safe equipment operation

Identifyand address hazards proactively

Participatein and support safety training and incident reporting

Schedule Expectations
This position requires flexibility to meet business needs,including:

Eveningsand weekends

Aschedule that supports full operational coverage

Working conditions & Physical Requirements
Responsibilities may include:

Workingoutdoors in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, snow, andvarying seasonal conditions

Operatingforklifts and other material-handling equipment (training andcertification requirements apply)

Loadingand unloading building materials

Assistingcustomers with order fulfillment and product selection

Lifting,carrying, pushing, and pulling building materials and merchandise





Standingand walking for extended periods

Workingin a fast-paced environment with changing priorities

Bending,reaching, climbing, and performing other physical tasks associated withyard operations

Candidates must be comfortable performing both the physicaland leadership aspects of the role and maintaining a visible presencethroughout the yard during their shift.

Qualifications

Previousexperience in a leadership or supervisory role (yard or operationsenvironment preferred)

BuildingSupply Materials Knowledge

Strongcommunication and interpersonal skills

Demonstratedability to lead by example and influence team behaviour

Solidunderstanding of yard operations and safety practices

Abilityto manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Commitmentto professionalism and workplace respect
