Student Engagement & Program Coordinator
Job Summary This position is responsible for the leadership and coordination of campus and community engagement programming for Heat Athletics & Recreation with an emphasis on youth sport development, campus and community engagement, including game‑day attendance of targeted community populations and specialized events. The role will develop an annual event plan, collaborate with community partners, and promote high‑impact, high‑quality programs and events to build engagement, campus spirit, and community partnership.
Work Performed Collaborate with Frontline Operations & Program Coordinator to manage campus and community partnerships, fundraising, and sponsorship opportunities.
Act as campus and community ambassador to local sport and school groups to foster long‑term participation opportunities.
Support varsity, community coaches, and department staff in planning, promoting, executing, staffing, evaluating, and evolving Junior Heat and Sport Camp programs; manage budgets and ensure compliance with UBC financial policies.
Explore expansion options for Heat Sport Camps and other community programs.
Plan, execute, and evaluate alumni engagement initiatives such as the Heat Golf Tournament, Scholarship Breakfast, and Homecoming.
Coordinate large‑scale Athletics & Recreation events to enhance the student experience, build school spirit, and promote physical activity.
Oversee fan engagement operations for varsity game days, ensuring a high‑quality game‑day experience and strong community connection.
Develop and coordinate personal and professional development strategies for student staff, including training programs in leadership, inclusivity, health & safety, and crisis management.
Recruit, hire, onboard, train, schedule, supervise, evaluate, and,
when necessary, discipline student staff supporting athletics and recreation programs and events.
Lead special projects such as Canada West and USPORTS Championships, fundraising events, the Athletic Banquet, and Academic All‑Canadian Brunch.
Serve as risk‑management advisor for all programs, overseeing insurance, contractual obligations, participant conduct, and safety procedures.
Attend campus and community committees, meetings, and retreats as required.
Minimum Qualifications Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.
Minimum of one year of professional experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Willingness to respect diverse perspectives and a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Preferred Qualifications Relevant disciplines include Human Kinetics, Physical Education, Business Operations, or Events Planning.
Experience/knowledge of sport and student development.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
Proven ability to organize sport/recreation events and coordinate student development programs.
Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
Effective interpersonal skills across diverse stakeholders.
Experience in personal development, conflict resolution, inclusivity, mentorship, and leadership.
Valid CPR and First Aid certification, and experience managing risk in a sport setting.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
Ability to work flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends, in a fast‑paced, high‑energy environment.
