What This Job Actually Is
This is an opportunity to become an active contributor to our Health, Safety & Environmental team while gaining real-world experience in the construction industry.

You'll work alongside HSE professionals, Project Managers, Superintendents, Supervisors, and field crews to support the implementation and continuous improvement of our Health, Safety & Environmental programs. You'll gain exposure to project operations, safety systems, inspections, investigations, audits, training, reporting, and risk management.

This role combines field exposure, learning, collaboration, and professional development. No two days are the same.

What Your Day-to-Day Will Look Like
Health, Safety & Environmental Program Support

Be an active participant in SB Canada's Health and Safety Program and contribute to a positive safety culture

Support the implementation and continuous improvement of HSE programs and initiatives

Assist in maintaining HSE documentation and records

Help ensure consistency in safety documentation across projects and business units

Support communication of HSE expectations and best practices

Site Inspections, Audits & Assessments

Participate in inspections, audits, assessments, tours, and workplace reviews

Assist with hazard identification and verification of control measures

Support workplace assessments to ensure compliance with legislation and company standards

Assist in reviewing audit findings and tracking corrective actions

Visit project sites to support audits, employee engagement, incident reviews, and HSE initiatives

Assist with incident investigations and documentation

Support the collection, review, and analysis of incident data

Help identify trends and opportunities for improvement

Assist with risk assessments and hazard evaluations

Support the development and implementation of corrective actions

Data Analysis & Reporting





Perform data entry and maintain accurate HSE records

Compile information and prepare reports using Excel and other systems

Assist with tracking key safety performance indicators (KPIs)

Support monthly reporting and statistical analysis

Help monitor safety performance across active job sites

Training & Communication

Assist with organizing and developing training sessions, workshops, and presentations

Support safety communication initiatives across the organization

Help create practical resources that improve awareness and engagement

Collaborate with project teams to communicate safety requirements and expectations

Project & Business Support

Support contract-specific hazard assessments and project safety plans

Assist with emergency response planning initiatives

Provide HSE support during project planning, tender reviews, and contract administration activities

Support relationships with clients, contractors, suppliers, and regulatory agencies

Work closely with operational teams to support safe project execution

Qualifications

Currently pursuing a Diploma or Degree in Occupational Health & Safety or a related field

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and SharePoint

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Strong interpersonal and problem-solving abilities

Ability to identify potential risks and support corrective actions

Positive attitude and willingness to learn in a collaborative environment

Interest in HSE inspections, investigations, and program development

Previous construction, safety, or internship experience is considered an asset

First Aid, WHMIS, CPR, or other safety certifications are considered an asset

Familiarity with applicable health and safety regulations is considered an asset

Valid driver's licence and willingness to travel within the assigned region

What You Should Know Before Applying

This role is based in Calgary, Alberta

Travel to project sites will be required

Some physical site activities may be required

You'll work closely with project teams, field personnel, clients, and HSE professionals
