The Bakery Decorator is responsible for ensuring customer service is provided through maintaining a safe and efficient operation while adhering to all Company policies, procedures and standards. The role reports directly to the Bakery Supervisor/Bakery Manager and includes the following responsibilities.
Responsibilities
Provides customer service and maintains positive customer relations through proper handling of customer questions, comments, requests and complaints, working proficiently and friendly in a diverse team environment.
Performs all aspects of the Bakery Decorator functions including stocking, displays, facing, and ensures presentation and stock levels are maintained.
Handles merchandise ensuring quality, minimizing damages and markdowns, providing substitutions and ensuring price integrity including price changes.
Performs general cleanup duties such as cleaning spills and display fixtures, keeping the sales floor and back stock area clean from cardboard and debris and disposing of garbage.
Performs duties following established Occupational Health & Safety, Food Safety, and Environmental regulations and policies to ensure the health and safety of all staff and customers.
Ensures proper care, use and maintenance of equipment and tools, reporting repair requirements to the Bakery or Duty Manager.
Responsible for ordering merchandise and supplies.
Responsible for receiving including reviewing and verifying invoices, returns, transfers, claims, and proper storage of products.
Responsible for organizing and conducting inventory.
Provides direction and supervision in the absence of the Supervisor or Manager, including:
Ensuring daily functions of staff are carried out efficiently.
Ensuring health and safety rules and regulations are followed.
Providing verbal input for employee performance and conduct.
Conducting technical training (e.g., department orientation, commodity specific functions) with day‑to‑day instruction and verbal feedback.
Applying effective customer service techniques.
Replacing shifts and authorizing appropriate documents.
Finishing, inspecting, preparing, and decorating all baked goods; cutting and slicing all prepared products as required.
Assisting in the development of new products, creating designs and special orders.
Required Skills and Abilities
Grade 12 or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
Combination of bakery and decorating training and experience.
Must pass in‑house Bakery Decorator testing.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
Supervisory experience.
S.A.I.T. or Wilton Decorating course or equivalent experience.
