Cole Harbour Place is a 200,000 square foot sport and recreation facility located in Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia. We are here to serve and accommodate members of our local and surrounding communities to achieve their personal health and wellness goals. The facility includes pools, rinks, weight room and training centre, dance and fitness studios, spin studio, squash courts, various meeting rooms as well as multiple community minded tenants.
Cole Harbour Place is seeking a skilled and dedicated full time permanent Building Engineer to support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of our 200,000 square foot sport and recreation facility. Reporting to management, this position is responsible for maintaining critical building systems, including heating, refrigeration, pool mechanical systems, and air handling equipment, while ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for members, tenants, and guests.
The Building Engineer plays a key role in daily facility operations, including ice maintenance, pool water treatment, preventative maintenance, general repairs, event setups, and responding to facility needs. This position requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team in a rapid-paced community recreation environment.
Duties:
Responsible for the safe and efficient operation of building heating system, pool mechanical, air handling equipment, and refrigeration plant
Responsible for ice maintenance, ice resurfacing
Responsible for pool water treatment and filtration systems maintenance
Take regular meter readings on designated equipment
Responsible for the condition and possible repairs of all fixed installations (i.e. lights, doors, toilets, showers, arena fixtures, etc.)
General labour work including but not limited to: setup and tear down of daily functions, snow removal, etc
Other duties or responsibilities may be assigned and added at managements discretion
Qualifications:
Second Class Refrigeration ticket or 4th Class Power Engineer ticket
Must possess a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
Must possess or be willing to obtain: WHMIS and fall arrest
Previous building maintenance experience is considered an asset
Previous experience with pools, rinks, and air handling units is considered an asset
Ability to work independently or as part of a team
Detail oriented with an ability to multi-task
Willingness to do what it takes to get the job done
Compensation:
As per NSUPE Local 22 Collective Agreement. Currently CA$25.39 per hour Full-time Permanent employment
