Overview This Pharmacy Assistant position reports to the Pharmacy Manager and assists with the technical aspects of dispensing prescriptions and administrative duties to allow the Pharmacist to focus on patient care.
Day‑to‑Day Responsibilities Customer Care & Customer Service Follow the customer care and service standards of the Calgary Co‑op.
Interact with customers and employees in a positive manner to enhance customer services and create a healthy work environment.
Pharmacy Operations Assist in the operation of the Pharmacy Department within the guidelines of the Alberta Pharmaceutical Association and the policies and procedures of the Calgary Co‑op.
Assist in the filling of prescriptions with a high degree of concentration, attentiveness to detail, and accuracy.
Assist the pharmacist in the preparation of prescriptions.
Help manage dispensary inventories, including ordering, receiving, rotating stock and supplies, returning outdated and unsaleable product, and assisting in inventory counts.
Assist in current merchandising practices when not occupied with prescription duties.
Be familiar with departmental operating objectives and maintain responsibility toward their achievement.
Know the merchandise carried and stay aware of new products and trends in the pharmaceutical and retail industry.
Assist in the proper care and maintenance of pharmacy equipment.
Other Responsibilities Stay informed about Calgary Co‑op policies, guidelines, procedures, and approved practices.
Perform general housekeeping duties and maintain the general appearance of the department when not filling prescriptions.
Work with the Pharmacy Manager to develop a detailed annual performance plan based on the approved Position Description.
Assist with special projects as required.
Focus on continuous improvement in all areas of responsibility, using creativity, ingenuity, and common sense.
Requirements Grade 12 education or an acceptable combination of experience and education.
Pass the Calgary Co‑op Pharmacy Assistant test.
Completed a recognized Pharmacy Assistant Program (preferred).
Two (2) years of dispensing experience (desirable).
