Are YOU our next Laboratory Assistant - LHSC?
As a Laboratory Assistant - LHSC , you are responsible for processing blood samples and other laboratory specimens, entering requisitions and results accurately – all in a timely manner. You also play an important role in providing customer service to create the best possible patient experience. These can be stressful situations for patients, and you need to display empathy, care, and kindness. Testing results are often critical for patients, and you are there to help and make an impact on their lives.

Status: Permanent Full-Time

Hours of Work: Mon-Fri, between the hours of 8.00am - 4.30pm

Location: Rutland LHSC (5E)

Discipline: LHSC

Workstyle: 100% onsite

How YOU Will Make a Difference





Create an ideal customer experience that is best in class and engages with individuals around our products and services

Accurately enter data, patient, and test information for Ministry of Health requisitions

Obtain quality blood samples and other specimens from patients, using skillful venipuncture techniques, performed in keeping with Dynacare’s mission and values

Sort and steer specimens and perform ECG’s

Ensure specimens and supporting documentation are completed as required in SOPs and ready for data entry and transportation to the laboratory, following established protocols for the handling of suitable and unsuitable samples

Ensure all confidential information is maintained in a secure fashion. Contribute to meeting the departmental/corporate quality metrics, regulatory compliance and quality indicators

What YOU Bring To The Role

You are CSMLS or BCSLS certified and/or a graduate of an MLA program accredited by BCSLS or equivalent awarding body (Canadian)

Applicants with a Bachelor degree in a related scientific discipline or nursing, or international MLA or MLT qualification, AND a minimum of 1 year patient-facing phlebotomy experience may also be considered

You are customer-focused with a genuine care for patient’s health

Demonstrate skill in phlebotomy, with the ability to manage anxious patients through the sample obtaining process in a pleasant, calming and reassuring manner

Prioritize and self-manage within a deadline-oriented setting

Be extremely detail oriented





Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, at a level that enables you to communicate instructions, clearly and understandably, to patients

Ability to attend shifts at various LHSCs across region

25 to 40 words per minute typing speed required

Working Conditions

Normal office environment

Medical laboratory environment

Required walking with repetitive motions

Required to float amongst listed locations as required

May sit or stand for prolonged period of time with extensive computer use

Required to lift a maximum of 30 pounds as required

Exposed to bio-hazardous substances, temperature differences and noise variances

At times might require frequent standing, sitting, bending, etc.

Pay rate: $27.00-$30.75 per hour

The hiring pay range has been established; however, the final pay offer will be determined by taking into consideration various factors including but not limited to, level of experience and education requirements.
