We are seeking a detail-oriented and client-focused Accounting Technician to join the team at SB Partners LLP.
Purpose of the position: As an Accounting Technician, you will provide accounting and tax compliance support to a variety of clients. This role is focused on the accurate preparation of working paper files, financial information, tax returns, and government filings in accordance with firm policies and qualified standards. The successful candidate will leverage their public accounting experience to prepare client files independently, manage multiple priorities, and deliver high-quality work with minimal supervision.
Key responsibilities and duties: Ability to perform basic bookkeeping and account reconciliations, as required
Prepare compilation engagements, which includes preparing working paper files and corporate income tax returns in adherence with the firm’s formal policies and procedures
Prepare personal tax returns, trust returns, T4s, T5s
Prepare and file HST returns
Communicate professionally with clients to obtain information and respond to routine inquiries
Correspond with the Canada Revenue Agency relating to personal tax and corporate tax inquiries
Manage competing deadlines for multiple partners and managers while providing quality service to clients
Regularly communicate with managers on status of files
Identify issues, gather relevant information, and escalate matters appropriately when required
Assess file workload and communicate budget updates to manager
Ensure time worked on each file is accurately recorded in practice management system
Maintain technical knowledge and apply firm procedures consistently and accurately
Additional duties, as assigned
What you offer: Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
2+ years of relevant accounting or bookkeeping experience in a public accounting firm, preferred
Strong client service and communication skills, both written and verbal
Organized and dependable with strong follow-through
Ability to follow standardized procedures and documentation requirements
Working knowledge of Canadian corporate and personal tax compliance requirements
Experience using Excel
Demonstrate ability to use Document Management Tools
Proven ability to manage multiple files and deadlines during busy periods
Experience using CaseWare and Taxprep software is considered an asset
Experience using QuickBooks Desktop, QuickBooks Online and Simply Accounting is considered an asset

This posting is to fill a newly created position. The salary range for this role is $50,000 - $60,000 per year. Compensation within the posted range will be based on the successful candidate's qualifications, experience and skills.
