Become a Visual Language Interpreter with School District No. 22 (Vernon) and contribute to an inclusive educational environment. This role is 35 hours per week over 10 months, focusing on sign language interpretation.
Ideal candidates will have completed a recognized Interpreter Training Program, possess registration with an accredited ASL interpreter body, and demonstrate at least one year of relevant experience. Being knowledgeable about Deaf culture and attentive to students’ unique learning needs is crucial for success.
Key Responsibilities:
• Facilitate communication using American Sign Language
• Collaborate with educational teams for student support
• Demonstrate tech competence and strong literacy skills
• Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
• Prioritize tasks effectively and work independently
Requirements:
• Must have a Grade 12 education completed
• Certification with a national or provincial ASL body
• At least one year of practical interpreting experience
• Robust organizational abilities and communication skills
• Education Assistant qualifications are helpful
