Long Term Care Royal Ottawa Place is a 64-bed long-term care facility located at The Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre. It provides a home-like setting for adults with stable mental illness and/or physical limitations. The facility is divided into four home areas, each supporting 16 residents, with an average age of 65 years.
Qualifications - Graduate of recognized Diploma Program in Practical Nursing.
Current registration with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Knowledge of CNO Standards regarding RPN scope of practice.
Understanding of MHA and relevant legislation.
CPR/AED Certification within the last 2 years.
Completion of Prevention of Violence in the Workplace training (C.P.I.) required.
Commitment to ongoing career development.
Technical skills such as glucometer reading, vital signs, injection skills, physical assessment/mental health assessment, catheterization, medication administration, O2 administration, basic wound care, suctioning, secure patient handling,
bladder scanning, ECT recovery, skin care and feeding.
Ability to develop therapeutic relations with patients.
Ability to function as a member of the inter‑disciplinary team.
Basic computer skills required. Preferred - Two years recent experience in psychiatric/mental health nursing.
Knowledge and experience working with individuals with substance use disorders (identifying signs and symptoms of withdrawal or intoxication from substance use).
Experience facilitating groups.
Experience working with patients with concurrent disorders.
Current knowledge of mechanical lifts, transferring and positions techniques.
Language Requirements
English level A- is mandatory in oral expression, comprehension, reading and writing. Bilingual (French/English) is considered an asset.
