We're seeking a compassionate and skilled caregiver to support an 85-year-old gentleman currently hospitalized at Eden in Bradford. This is a meaningful opportunity to provide dedicated daily care during a challenging recovery period.

About the Client: Our client is a highly intelligent, cognitively sharp engineer who suffered a serious spinal cord injury resulting in spinal stenosis. Following emergency surgery in January, he has lost most feeling and function in his hands and arms, leaving him largely bedbound with significant physical limitations. Despite these challenges, he remains mentally alert, articulate, and engaged.

He speaks English and Italian, values meaningful conversation, and needs a caregiver who can provide both physical support and genuine companionship.

Responsibilities

- Assist with feeding for breakfast and lunch, as he cannot use his hands independently
- Provide grooming support including shaving, teeth brushing, and face washing
- Help with personal care and bathing needs
- Support with mobility and transfers, as he uses a tilt wheelchair and attempts daily walking with therapy
- Adjust pillows and bedding for comfort throughout the shift
- Ensure he has access to water and other necessities
- Advocate for his needs with hospital staff when necessary
- Provide companionship and meaningful conversation during care hours
- Collaborate respectfully with hospital nursing and PSW staff

What We're Looking For:
- Experience providing care in hospital settings
- Strong skills in mobility assistance and safe transfer techniques
- Expertise in feeding support and personal care for individuals with limited hand function
- Experience working with spinal cord injuries or similar conditions
- Patience,



reliability, and excellent communication skills
- Ability to take initiative and advocate effectively
- Respectful, calm demeanor that makes the client feel comfortable
- Fluency in English required; Italian language skills are a strong asset
- Someone who values building a consistent, trusting relationship

Schedule: Daily support needed Monday through Friday, approximately 9:00 AM to 1:30 PM or 2:00 PM (4-5 hours per day). The family is open to adjusting hours as needs become clearer. The client may transition from the hospital to a long-term care facility in the coming weeks, and the ideal caregiver would be able to continue providing care through this transition within the local area (Newmarket, Aurora, Bradford, Kleinberg region).
