Education: College, CEGEP or other non-university certificate or diploma from a program of 1 year to 2 years. Work setting: Veterinary clinic. Animal hospital. Tasks: Handle, restrain and care for animals undergoing treatment and surgery. Prepare and administer medications and vaccines under direction of veterinarian. Administer treatments as prescribed by veterinarian. Counsel clients on animal health care. Provide nursing care and rehabilitation therapy for animals. Provide wound and bandage care. Area of specialization: Small animals. Emergency care. Security and safety: Criminal record check. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Handling heavy loads. Manual dexterity. Attention to detail. Hand-eye co-ordination. Fast-paced workplace. Walking. Standing for extended periods. Bending, crouching, kneeling. Combination of sitting, standing, walking.
