Empower youth with Tropicana Community Services as a Peer Support Worker in the Black Justice Program. This part time role focuses on direct support and mentorship for young individuals facing high-risk situations.
As a Peer Support Worker, you will connect with youth aged 12-29 involved with the justice system, offering guidance and support in their reintegration. You will use your lived experience and knowledge of youth culture to foster trust, assist in building life skills, and navigate challenges related to education and employment.
Key Responsibilities:
• Build trusting relationships with at-risk youth
• Provide one-on-one mentorship and practical support
• Model pathways away from gang and theft involvement
• Support youth in developing life skills and goals
• Respond to crises and escalate as needed
Requirements:
• Understanding of the justice system and gang dynamics
• Knowledge of youth networks and social media trends
• Credibility within the community and ability to engage reluctant youth
• Sound judgment in high-risk situations
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
