About the Role The Junior Accountant plays an important role in the finance function at Sterling Brokers. This role provides day-to-day accounting support across our subsidiary brands, assisting with journal entries, reconciliations, and payroll-adjacent tasks while working within tight month, quarter, and year-end timelines. This role collaborates closely with the broader Finance team, requiring strong organizational skills and a customer-service mindset to be successful in a fast-paced, changing environment.
This is a hybrid role, requiring a minimum one day per week in office at our Toronto Headquarters Location; the specific day and time will be determined with the hiring manager.
What You'll Do Client Billing & Invoicing Post HSA invoices to Sterling platform and NetSuite
Prepare manual invoices and manual adjustments
Review invoices prior to distribution
Process PAD (pre-authorized debit) runs, twice monthly
Complete invoice approvals at the start of each month
Send client invoice reminders and follow up on outstanding payments
Client & Account Support Respond to client queries and communications
Process bridge coverage requests
Complete new group uploads
Process client terminations
Follow up on failed, expired, or declined payments
Office & Compliance Deposit cheques, scan incoming mail, and maintain filing
Commission statement download, scan and filing
Support audit requests and documentation
Other tasks as required
Qualifications University degree required; a concentration in Accounting, Finance, or Business Management is preferred
2+ years of experience working in a mid-sized Finance environment
Some experience with payroll is preferred
2+ years of experience booking journal entries; NetSuite experience is considered an asset
Demonstrated ability to work within tight timelines for month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close
Proven ability to prioritize tasks efficiently in a fast-paced, changing workplace
Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills
