Canadian Tire is seeking a highly motivated AI Enablement Student to join their Engineering Practices team in Toronto, ON for a four-month Fall 2026 work term. This role offers a unique opportunity to help shape how AI is adopted across engineering teams by contributing to technical documentation modernization, standards consolidation, and AI enablement initiatives.
What You'll Do
AI-Powered Technical Documentation:
Assist in standardizing and modernizing engineering documentation using AI-assisted approaches
Explore AI tools and techniques that improve documentation quality, discoverability, and maintenance
Develop documentation templates, examples, and reusable artifacts that improve developer onboarding and knowledge sharing
Apply hands-on coding and AI-assisted development skills to create AI-based documentation workflows and automation patterns
Standards, Best Practices & Guardrails Initiative:
Support the consolidation of coding standards, engineering best practices, architectural guidance, and development guardrails into common playbooks
Help create centralized repositories and knowledge bases that serve as a single source of truth
Participate in Community of Practice (CoP) sessions and assist Staff Engineers in driving adoption of shared engineering standards
Prototype practical solutions including reusable scripts, AI-assisted workflows, and proof-of-concepts
AI Enablement & Developer Productivity:
Research and evaluate emerging AI tools that support software development, documentation, testing, code reviews, and engineering workflows
Contribute to AI adoption initiatives by documenting use cases,
lessons learned, and recommended practices
Help develop AI instruction sets, prompts, templates, and guidance materials reusable by engineering teams
Assist with workshops, demonstrations, onboarding materials, and communication assets supporting broader AI adoption
Requirements
Currently enrolled in a post-secondary program (Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, IT, AI/ML, Data Science, or related discipline)
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Basic programming experience in Java, Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, Swift, or Kotlin
Experience using Git and GitHub for version control and collaboration
Basic understanding of prompt engineering and effective interaction with AI tools
Experience using AI-powered developer tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, ChatGPT, Claude)
Documentation and collaboration tools (Markdown, Mermaid, Confluence) considered an asset
Compensation
Typical hiring range: $23.00 – $30.00 CAD per hour. Broadband range: $23.00 – $37.00 CAD per hour. Benefits include growth opportunities opportunities, product discounts, and access to Canadian Tire's learning and well-being programs.
