Position Summary
We are looking for an Early Childhood Assistant to join our Wellesley Early Learning Centre team on an 18‑month contract. The assistant will work under the guidance of a Registered Early Childhood Educator (RECE) to support the curriculum, maintain a safe and nurturing environment, and assist with everyday classroom tasks.

Responsibilities

Supervise children in a safe and healthy environment.

Update attendance and conduct headcounts during transitions.

Assist the RECE in preparing and setting up program activities.

Record brief observations on individual child behaviours to support developmental tracking.

Welcome families and maintain positive professional relationships with parents, families, peers and visitors.

Help establish daily routines and provide consistency in following schedules.

Implement consistent behaviour guidance in line with the ELC Behaviour Guidance Policy.

Share observations with the team teacher for inclusion in program plans and learning experiences.

Support day‑to‑day operations in accordance with CCEYA, AQI and TPH requirements.

Keep the room organized, facilitate cleanup and help label items with placement students.

Maintain records, copies of program plans and other required documentation.

Assist with opening and closing of the Centre when the RECE is present.

Participate in supervision as required by agency policy.

Pursue professional development through training and literature.

Perform housekeeping duties as assigned by the ELC Director.

Report any signs of child abuse to the Children Aid Society.

Inform the ELC Director and team members of children’s illnesses, injuries and absenteeism with proper documentation.





Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Early Childhood Assistant certificate, equivalent experience, or current enrollment in an ECE program.

Valid Standard First Aid Certificate.

Regular intermittent physical activity, including walking, standing, sitting, lifting and supporting students.

Working Conditions

Concurrent deadlines and frequent interruptions.

Fast‑paced environment.

Interaction with all stakeholders under all circumstances.

Other Requirements

Offer contingent upon successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Check.

Credential verifications and references required.

Compensation
This is a unionised position under CUPE. Salary is $34,961 per annum, pro‑rated based on contract length.
