Health Care Aide
Responsibilities
Be an engaged collaborative team player, developing and maintaining professional relationships that support and strengthen the organizational culture and purpose.
Follow established care plans.
Provide personal care for residents from admission or transfer, including bathing, grooming, dressing, assisting with meals, oral hygiene, and performing other care duties as applicable.
Respond to call bells/alarms.
Observe and monitor residents’ progress, symptoms and behavioral changes and report significant observations.
Utilize proper safety protocols when operating mechanical aides such as specialty beds, wheelchairs and stretchers to transport residents.
Aid with lifting and/or transferring residents by following established lifting/safety techniques.
Provide residents with nutritional assistance (e.g., meals, nourishment, and tray service) and assist residents to eat as needed; assist residents to and from dining areas in accordance with meal service schedules; report any appetite/fluid/food intake changes or concerns immediately to the nurse.
Encourage resident participation in food service and clean‑up.
Perform laundry of residents’ personal clothing as required.
Involve the resident in organizing and maintaining their home environment, ensuring it is done according to the resident’s wishes and needs.
Attend and participate in community and education programs.
Perform other related duties as required.
Employment Terms
Two‑year permanent position, 30–37.5 hours per week.

English.
Wages
Starting: $23.02, Post‑Probationary: $23.52, 1825 hrs: $24.00 (salary range $23.02–$24.00).

Qualifications and Skills
Graduate from a recognized Care Aide Program.
Have an active registration with the British Columbia Care Aide & Community Health Worker Registry.
Food Safe Level 1 Certificate – an asset.
Medication Administration Certification – an asset.
Previous experience in a long‑term care facility – an asset.
Demonstrate ability to provide compassionate and empathetic care.
Ability to read, write and speak English proficiently and understand verbal and written instructions.
Must pass the vulnerable sector Criminal Record Check applicable to provincial guidelines.
Ability to push, pull, stoop, crouch, lift and carry up to 25 lbs; must be able to work with cleaners, detergents and other cleaning equipment.
