and exhibit opportunities, and collaborates with the Marketing team to assess, prioritize, and execute these opportunitiesGuides the development and implementation of collectionsEngages with key researchers, research groups, societies, and institutions to keep up with emerging research areas; and uses this information to proactively suggest topics and themes for new or current journalsSets and tracks key performance indicators across journal portfolios to measure journal performance and content development actions contributing to growthTakes remedial actions to address issues associated with underperforming journalsIn collaboration with the Strategy & Growth team, grows CSP’s open access journal portfolioIdentifies and develops opportunities to launch new OA journals; and leads the implementation of new journal launchesHelps to determine when existing hybrid journals are ready to flip to OA, leads the implementation of these flips, and monitors these journals to ensure their successDevelops strategies and implements action plans to drive growth of the new OA journalsWorks closely with the Integrity and Engagement team to develop and implement strategies to create engaged, diverse, and collaborative editorial boards, and to recruit new editorial board members as neededEngages with EICs and journal boards to build close working relationshipsFosters strong relationships with society partnersEnsures that contractual obligations are fulfilled and that CSP is providing a high level of service to society members and receiving good value in returnNegotiates renewals of society MOUs, consulting with the Strategy & Growth team as neededLooks for opportunities to form new society partnerships and works with the Strategy & Growth team, as needed, to develop the partnership termsManages a team of Journal Development Specialists, providing guidance, leadership, and performance feedbackEmpowers people to do their best work and drives continuous improvement by ensuring that they understand CSP policies, goals, and values; and by building engagement, skills, and teamwork.Manages people’s performance and workloads to effectively meet operational requirements.Provides training, professional development opportunities, and regular constructive feedback to nurture their talents and contribute to their growth as employees; identifies high potential candidates and contributes to staff development plans and opportunities.Works closely with the Marketing and Communications team to maximize the visibility, impact,



and reach of content published in recent and existing journal titles.Works closely with the Peer Review team and the Production and Technology team to ensure the effective publication of all content and optimize the author experience.Proactively keeps up with emerging trends, evolving customer needs, and developments in the publishing industry and journal disciplines to help inform new company initiatives.What you’ll bringBachelor’s degree in science or engineering OR a bachelor’s degree and significant experience in scholarly publishing. A post-graduate degree would be considered an asset.Significant experience working within a research journal publishing environment, with a strong understanding of industry practices and trends.Demonstrated experience leading and developing teams, including coaching, performance management, and supporting the growth of direct reports.Ability to travel to editorial board meetings, conferences, institutions, and other external events.Passionate about research journal publishing with a deep understanding of current trends and best practices.Demonstrates integrity, transparency, and openness in all interactions.Empowers colleagues and staff to produce their best work by driving continuous improvement and promoting a psychologically safe environment.Ability to think strategically and critically, and to develop and implement innovative solutions.Highly developed and persuasive communication skills with the ability to establish, develop, and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders.Ability to work independently and collaboratively as needed.Possesses excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to pivot between tasks to support business needs.Why join us?Looking for a career where you can make an impact?
