The Role
As a Support Worker, you will:

Assist individuals in their homes and/or community with daily living needs

Support participation in community activities, recreation, and social inclusion

Communicate effectively in ASL and embrace Deaf culture

Apply crisis intervention and positive behavioural strategies (behaviour as communication)

Collaborate with families, professionals, and community partners

What You Bring

Education and or experience supporting individuals with diverse abilities, including relevant training such as CSW, RCA, SIVA, or equivalent experience.





Provide person-centred support with daily living activities while promoting choice, voice, self-determination, and community participation in alignment with Person-Centred Plans.

Communicate effectively using American Sign Language (ASL), recognize behaviour as communication, and apply trauma-informed and positive behavioural approaches to support wellbeing and safety.

Demonstrate respect for Deaf culture and identity, with a commitment to ongoing ASL learning and professional development.

Work collaboratively with families, community partners, and the Bonaventure team while upholding organizational values, policies, human rights, and health and safety standards.

Requirements

Valid BC Class 5 Driver’s License

RCMP Criminal Record Check (Schedule A)

MCFD Hub Screening

First Aid with CPR Certificate, Food Safe Level 1

Immunization Record

Physician’s Declaration & TB Screen

Three professional references (including one recent employer)

ASL certification (or willingness to achieve one)
